Uncover the Best Covers! 10/2/2013 [UPDATED]

Every Thursday, each staff member will choose his favorite cover of the week to showcase here.

So… Are variant covers worth it? I mean, I’ve never bought one in my life and I’m perfectly hap– Wait, Dave McKean is doing the Sandman: Overture variants? Dammit…

 Fantomex Max #1

While I may not have enjoyed the story as much as I had hoped to, this cover was fantastic. It has everything. Intrigue, suspense, and silhouetted nipples! How could you go wrong?!? Francavilla will always be one of my personal favorite artists.

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1

Yes, I'm still not done praising this book. The composition of this cover is beautiful; the abstract elements on the side, faded Spidey in the back, and clever use of negative space that shouldn't work, but does. And the dark, almost art-deco coloring is lovely.

The Witching Hour #1

It's always the small details about a lady which catch your attention: the glint in her eyes, the slight upturn of her smile, her long sleek hair, the marks from where the raven has gripped her fingers ever so strongly, as it holds aloft its insignia. Bewitching.

Hinterkind #1

An arresting, fantastical image that promises adventure and intrigue, I couldn't turn this cover down. Greg Tocchini delivers a beautiful, swirling mural that introduces us to the key characters, concepts and central elements of the series (presumably), without ever coming off as cluttered or off-balance. A superb cover image.

Because the NBC Staff are NUTS!

          1. Trillium was a good cover, but I thought that there were other stronger covers this week. Oh well, it still has a few more chance to be included. 🙂

Now, we wait and see if it made Freeze Frame . . .

  1. Nightwing, I agree with you about variant covers — I only consider buying one if it’s sitting on the shelf at the same price as the regular version. However, I am prepared to pay more (within reason) to get the McKean Sandman variants. Luckily my store, for issue one at least, is planning to sell them at regular cover price . . .

  2. What?! No Trillium?! You guys are…dare I say…NUTS!!! (Cue ghostmann 😉 )
Well, since the NBC staff are clearly blind as referee bats, I make Trillium my official cover of the week.

    Just playin’ 😛

I wouldn’t have picked Trillium either, actually.
I like that Spidey cover. It’s magnetic. Nice use of color. Subtle and elegant. Great choice Nightwing97. Treat yourself to a cookie and a big ole glass of almond milk. 😉
