Indubitable Issues and Pull List (01/13/16)

LOOKING FOR BOOKS TO BUY THIS WEEK?

LOOK NO FURTHER.

HERE ARE SOME ISSUES THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Tyler’s Recommendations …
Violent

Violent #2
“I picked up the first issue due to all the positive buzz and my love of crime comics. I’m recommending the second, because the buzz was well deserved, and I’m very excited for what Ed Brisson and Adam Gorham are doing. For fans of Criminal and Stray Bullets, this is a no-brainer.”

FromUnderMountainFrom Under Mountains #4

“Each issue of this dark fantasy has added new layers to the sprawling and engaging story. Pieces are starting to fall into place, but there is a sense of dread and doom that looms over every character and scene. Every page is beautiful and exciting, with new discoveries to be found after each read. For those of you unfamiliar with the creative team of Claire Gibson, Marion Churchland, and Sloane Leong; you should acquaint yourselves, these are talents to watch.”

Josh’s Recommendation …

LegendOfWonderWomanLegend of Wonder Woman #1

“What may be long overdue comes a series looking at the woman behind the Wonder, the girl before she was the Amazon, a princess who will become an ambassador. This 9 issue series will look at Princess Diana’s formative years on Paradise Island and the experiences that will transform her into Wonder Woman.”

Creighton’s Recommendation …

DaredevilDaredevil Epic Collection Vol 13

“The latest edition to Marvel’s Epic line has been long overdue. Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr’s run on Daredevil is fondly remembered by many fans who would rank it as the character’s second best ever. Long uncollected, this trade brings together the most iconic elements of Nocent’s & Romita’s time on the title: Typhoid Mary, Inferno tie-ins, the meddling of Mephisto and the beginning of Matt’s time on the road. Great for either readers curious to see what all the fuss is about or those wishing to revisit fond memories . . .”

Reed’s Recommendation …
Constantine

קויפן דעם בוך
“That’s a magic enchantment to persuade you to buy CONSTANTINE: THE HELLBLAZER #8.  In past issues, the creative team of Ming Doyle, James Tynion IV, and Riley Rossmo have hinted that sinister, powerful supernatural forces are brewing in New York City, and this issue promises to reveal the big bad details to readers and our reluctant-to-get-involved occult hero, John Constantine.”

As I’m sure you all have noticed, the pull list page is no longer present. We here at Nothing But Comics have decided to combine this weekly with the discussion of which comics we are all buying for the week. Included below is the link of our personal favorite product guide. Don’t worry, this is not an advertisement; the website is not paying us anything to push it (not that we’d object!). Comic List just happens to be totally awesome. So check out that massive list and then come on back here to let us know what you are buying.

  4. Those summer secret wars alternate reality series are mostly fantastic. I’m 6 months behind but WOW… I love renew your vows Spidey. In fact I love most of secret wars stuff and I don’t even know half the creators. Pretty amazing.

    1. Yeah man! It was awesome. I bought almost every series and loved the majority of them. They dragged me back into Marvel.

      1. So far I think it is by far the best “event” Marvel has ever done. I’m having trouble finding enough reading time frankly because there are too many worthwhile series.

          1. Ya, The main series is fantastic as well. I’m surprised that all the satellite series are so good though. That is not normally the case. It maybe as you have stated numerous times (heavily paraphrasing) that being free from continuity and just writing with creative freedom can really make some magic.

            1. Pretty much, it’s just doing fun books. I could list so many great comics from those tie in books. In reality they were barely tie ins at all

                1. Siege and Thors eventually tie directly into the main series (the former more successfully than the latter). For some reason I think that there was a third series as well, but didn’t read that one.

But yes, the majority of the tie-ins were independent of the main book. Really, can’t emphasize enough how bursting with creative freedom the whole project was . . .

Also, what I read of the Last Days tie-ins were strong as well. The Ms Marvel issues were some of the best issues of the year . . .

                    1. Yeah, Siege was great — a fitting grace note to Gillen’s time in the Marvel Universe. And yes, those guest artist pages were stunning. I think that pretty much all of them made Freeze Frame . . .

        1. Make sure you check out the Secret Love one-shot — it’s a real gem . . .

And yeah, I agree with all the other comments about how great the whole event was . . .
