First Trailer for Thor: Ragnarok

Today Marvel Studios unveiled the initial trailer for Thor: Ragnarok. This first footage is solidly focused on Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder who it appears is about to undergo another of his periodic humblings. The trailer wisely de-emphasizes Loki (headgear change noted with approval, though) in favor of new characters Valkyrie, The Grandmaster and especially Cate Blanchett’s Hela (who looks fantastic). The trailer also suggests that the film will arrive with Taika Waititi’s signature quirk intact.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson & Jeff Goldblum. The movie, directed by Taika Waititi, opens November 3rd.

  1. This looks fantastic. World war Hulk, hulk!!!!! and Blanchett… a proper actress… I’m looking forward to a Thor movie for the first time.

Val Kilmer just came in his pants.

  2. I so excited for this movie. Maybe the excitement will help me get through Thor 2. I tried to watch it about a year ago, but I was so bored that I fell asleep.

    1. I enjoyed Thor 2. Does it have flaws? Definitely, but I still found it to be an improvement over the first Thor film (which is kinda a mess). For me Dark World is neither a highlight nor a nadir of the MCU . . .

    2. Ha. Ya, I haven’t really liked either of the Thor movies. The technology throws me off a bit, energy weapons and all that. Loki is a rather low key villain as well. Bring on Hela and Thanos… and the Hulk.

      1. Yeah the whole magic/technology thing did annoy me. Very glad that got ditched for Doctor Strange.

I enjoy Hiddleston’s Loki — honestly I like his work in the Marvel movies more than the more “serious” roles I’ve seen him in.

But, yeah, the last two Cap movies have definitely set the bar high going forward. I’d be more worried about Avengers 3/4 if it weren’t the same writers/directors who did Winter Soldier and Civil War . . .

        1. I think that a cerebral villain like Loki requires some very skilled writing and I’m not sure we got that so far. I’m really not a big fan of Hemsworth or Hiddleston but they aren’t terrible. I shouldn’t complain because I don’t know anyone that could replace them.

Cap has been fantastic. Great writing and directing.

          1. At first I was underwhelmed by Hemsworth but over the course of a few appearances he’s grown on me . . .

Cap’s definitely had consistently good talent behind the camera. Also all three screenplays were by the same writing team of Markus/McFeely who I really don’t think get enough credit for their contributions the MCU . . .

            1. Ya… the best thing about Hemsworth is summed up with that impressive enthusiastic cheer that he belts out for the prospect of facing the Hulk in this trailer. I don’t know anyone else that could do better than that.
