San Diego Comic Con News & Things 7/21/2017

There is a flurry of announcements coming out San Diego Comic Con, this is some of the news that’s been revealed so far from the largest comics convention

  • Grant Morrison will be teaming with Batman Inc Vol 2 & Nameless artist Chris Burnham to work on a graphic novel about Damien Wayne in an alternate reality based on the Morrison’s Batman #666 issue titled Batman Arkham Asylum Part 2. Keep in mind that Morrison has announced several original graphic novels at SDCC in the past few years with DC Comics that have yet come to fruition
  • Ed Piskor of Hip Hop Family Tree will be writing and drawing a six issue X-Men series that explores the property throughout the decades starting in the 1960’s up to today titled X-Men Grand Design
  • Dark Horse Comics announced the initial slate of new titles from their Berger Books imprints headed by Vertigo Comics founder & former DC editor of iconic titles like Alan Moore’s Saga of The Swamp Thing & Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, Karen Berger. The titles include comics from chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain with art by Paul Pope & Vanessa R Del Rey, a new series from Ann Nocenti and David Aja, in addition to new work from Ariel Kristantina, Warren Peace, Mat Johnson & more
  • Alan Moore & Kevin O’Neil will be releasing a final League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel next summer
  • Jeff Smith will be releasing a new Bone graphic novel titled Smiley’s Revenge
  • Geoff Johns gave more details on his upcoming Doomsday Clock title which will be 12 issues long and feature Dr Manhattan from Watchmen as the main antagonist, with art from Gary Frank. In regards to Alan Moore’s feelings against using his creations in other comics Johns said “I believe in the story, and we’re going to tell the best damn story we can”
  • Additional news included a previously announced Iron Fist series written by Kaare Andrews with art from Afura Richardson that was immediately released to Comixology, a new Thanos ongoing series by Donny Crates and Geoff Shaw, Noah Hawley of the FX television series Fargo and Legion is developing a Dr Doom film, Dark Horse has renewed their first look deal with Universal development for adaptations of Mind MGMT, Flutter, The Bright Sessions and more , & a new crossover series between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Ghostbuster is coming from IDW
