Indubitable Issues and Pull List (10/02/17)

Tyler’s Recommendation…
AUG170930Punisher: The Platoon #1
“Garth Ennis. Goran Parlov. Frank Castle. I don’t think I have to say anymore, do I?”

 Alex’s Recommendations...
AUG170982Astonishing X-Men #4
‘And somewhere, the Shadow King laughs and laughs…’
AUG170699Paper Girls #16
“Time for a new story arc! Remember the time you found your parents were Y2K preppers and you questioned every decision they had ever made? And even over the years of suppression, you still kinda question their choices? Well, here’s a reality where they wouldn’t have been crazy. (This blurb is, of course, totally, in no way fueled by my own experiences.)”
Marc Spector’s Recommendations...
AUG170697Motor Crush #7
“Motor Crush is a high octane racing comic about family, love & substance abuse, that’s built an engrossing world & mythology. With outstanding interior art from Cameron Stewart & Babs Tarr, this book is a blast to read in every installment.”
AUG170716Rocket Girl #10
“Amy Reeder drawing a teenage cop flying through 1980’s New York City on a jet pack; do you need me to say anything else?”
Josh’s Recommendation…
Iron FistIron Fist #73
“73? What happened to issue 8-72?! Legacy numbering, ignore it. Its still the same fun book of Kung Fu action and Danny Rand’s journey to redeem himself as a fallen hero of K’un Lun by Ed Brisson and Mike Perkins.”
JUL171353Three Stooges Halloween Stoogetacular
“I’m a sucker for the Three Stooges, and while Halloween is the time for thrills and chills its also not a bad time for the seasonal chuckle. I’m already in for the ride to see whatever shenanigans abound in this issue.”
As we’re sure you all have noticed, the pull list page is no longer present. We here at Nothing But Comics have decided to combine this weekly with the discussion of which comics we are all buying for the week. Included below is the link of our personal favorite product guide. Don’t worry, this is not an advertisement; the website is not paying us anything to push it (not that we’d object!). Comic List just happens to be totally awesome. So check out that massive list and then come on back here to let us know what you are buying.

        1. Ya my Ghost Rider as a kid was the 90s Dan Ketch Ghost Rider and that rendition was a “spirit of vengeance”. I’m not sure if Johny Blaze is the same (I don’t think that he is). It will be good to see those characters together though.

          1. I always assumed that “spirit of vengeance” was as essential part of the concept, but my main experience with the character is limited to the handful of issues of the Ketch series I read too long ago to remember anything about . . .

Didn’t Johnny Blaze eventually pop up in the 90s series with (literal) blazing guns?

            1. Ya blaze did show up with literal blazing guns. From what i understand during the 90s series one of the mysteries of the series was whether or not Ketch’s Ghost Rider was a demon like Blaze’s was or rather if it was a “spirit of vengeance”. I thought that the conclusion was that it wasn’t a demon but I know these things get retconned a lot. The penance stare came right out of the 90s series I think. Ketch was a character I could identify with and Blaze not so much. The whole circus carney thing is a world that is beyond me.

            2. Ya wiki says Ketch’s G Rider was an angel of death and judgement while Blaze’s was a straight up demon. Blaze’s fought him but Ketch’s tried to cooperate. Noble Kale was one and the other was the famous Zarthos.

Hope to come back for next week:Hawkeye; Eleanor & the Egret

Dropping: Paper Girls. I loved the first arc, but became increasingly disengaged as the story grew more focused on concept and plot twists than character or theme. Art’s still great though.

    1. I felt the same way about Paper Girls for a long while. I’d often speak out against it on the podcast. But I stuck with it, and I’m really enjoying it again.

      1. Glad it bounced back for you. Personally, by the end of #15 I couldn’t care less about what was happening to the characters, who had pretty much all devolved into interchangeable riffs on “spunky teen girl” . . .

        1. Either way, that’s not encouraging. Liz and I saw Tom Petty at Madison Square Garden a few years back (2014?) and it was fantastic performance . . .

        2. Hmm ya dudes … I loved Petty. Another shity 24 hours in a shity 365 days. He put out a lot of positive music in an industry that puts out too many sad or aggressive songs. I’m sure that he isn’t looking at any “gates of hell”.
