In the back matter of his new Dark Horse series, Matt Kindt offers up this statement as the guiding principle for Past Aways. Having spent the last few years crafting intricate, emotionally resonant puzzles such as Mind MGMT, he decided that he could use a change. Something lighter. And so, he and artist Scott Kolins leaped into creating this tale of 5 time explorers from the distant future who find themselves marooned in our present. The results are quite enjoyable.
The story opens a year after the accident which stranded the team. (Kindt and Kolins gave readers a glimpse of this occurrence in Dark Horse Presents #6). Not only is the team marooned, but they are stuck much further in the past than was their mission goal. As a result they are caught in a period that they have little training for, needing to rely for context on whatever snippets they recall from history class. Having grown restless, they have largely drifted apart. The emergence of a monster in Greece, however, provides a catalyst for reunion.
