This weekend brings the return of Washington D.C.’s annual Awesome Con. This year’s guest list includes artist Greg Capullo, whose long career in the industry includes such high-profile properties as Spawn and Batman. His creator-owned work ranges from The Creech to Reborn. In advance of Awesome Con, I recently had an extended conversation with Capullo covering various aspects of his work, including his creative process for Batman, the importance of artistic collaboration and his experience working at Image during different phases of their history.

The Red Bee asks Cullen Bunn about his favorite Micronaut

Over the years, the Micronauts sci-fi toy line has inspired comics produced by various publishers, such as Image Comics and Devil’s Due Publishing, but most notably Marvel Comics’ Micronauts series; initially written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Michael Golden and Joe Rubinstein, the series ran from 1979 to 1984. The series featured heroic characters like Biotron and Acroyear fighting against the evil Baron Karza in the extradimensional Microverse.

This week, IDW Publishing releases its own Micronauts series, written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by David Baldeon. We wanted to know Bunn’s favorite Micronauts character, so we recruited superhero the Red Bee to ask him.

Kurt Busiek Shares His Favorite Fantasy Fiction

If you like epic fantasy, you should be reading The Autumnlands.  Written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated by artist Benjamin Dewey with colorist Jordie Bellaire, the Image Comics fantasy series features anthropomorphic animal characters in a world where magic is dying, and a confused champion from another world may be their only hope of salvation.

As fans of the series, we were curious about writer Kurt Busiek’s favorite fantasy fiction, so we sent superhero the Fighting Yank (via Twitter) to ask him about his favorite fantasy novels, comics, and stories.

The Devil asks Si Spencer about SLASH & BURN

At Nothing But Comics, we’ve enjoyed the new comics series recently published by Vertigo, such as Twilight Children, Unfollow, and Survivors’ Club.  We were eager to learn more about the upcoming Vertigo series Slash & Burn, written by one of our favorite writers, Si Spencer (Bodies, The Vinyl Underground, Hellblazer: City of Demons); the comic’s protagonist is arsonist/firefighter Rosheen Hayes, and the comic piqued our interest.

At Nothing But Comics, we’re big fans of creator Scott Kolins, who provides great art on such comics as The Flash, Thor: Blood Oath, and Past Aways  So when we learned that Kolins was writing and illustrating the Dark Horse Comics series Adam.3, we were eager to learn more about the comic.

The Devil Asks Greg Rucka about BLACK MAGICK

At Nothing But Comics, we’re big fans of Greg Rucka, who writes some of our favorite comics, like Queen & Country, Stumptown, Veil, and Gotham Central. So we were excited to learn that Rucka is working on the upcoming Image Comics series Black Magick with artist Nicola Scott.  We were curious to know how Rucka would describe the series to an interested reader.
